| Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is practiced all around the globe. It has gained popularity as more people seek adjunctive modalities to promote wholeness and well-being. | The original Reiki system, developed by a Japanese man named Mikao Usui (1865-1926), has blossomed into a multitude of worldwide branches. What is common to all Reiki systems is the concept of “life force energy”. |
|
| The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words, Rei which means “Divine Wisdom” or “Higher Power” and Ki, which means “life force energy". The concept of “life force energy” is that it flows through all of us; if it is low then we are more likely to feel tired or get sick, if it is high then we are more likely to feel happy and capable of being healthy. |
A Reiki Session feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. A typical Reiki Session can last anywhere from 45 – 60 minutes. The person receiving Reiki is fully clothed. Reiki is not massage or reflexology, it is distinct in that it is administered by the practitioner very gently placing their hands on, or slightly above, the body. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit and is capable of producing beneficial effects that include relaxation, peace, and well-being. |
| Reiki is not connected to any religion or belief system. The Reiki Practitioner or Master does not generate Reiki energy, as they are merely the vessel through which the Reiki energy flows. Because Reiki is Spiritual Life Force Energy, and is Divinely Guided, Reiki can never do any harm. |
